Happy dogs and Price Is Right!

Okay, so that's a wierd title! Let me explain. I think Frannie and Bennie are happier with my schedule than I am. I now have Mondays off which means they aren't locked up in the garage 5 days a week. They get me all day long, unless I'm running errands. Right now, Bennie is curled up on the back of the couch next to my left shoulder, and Frannie is next to him curled up at the back of my neck snorring away. I'm sitting here writting this blog and watching my favorite game show of all time, The Price Is Right. Of course it's not quite the same without Bob, but Drew is doing a great job. This weekend was pretty cool. The Antique Trove, where my wife has a booth, had a parking lot sale. We sold about $400 worth of stuff. Unfortunately, $350 was a friends stuff that we sold for him. But, that's okay, we had fun. Anyway, I guess that's all for now. Schmidt, out!

Bad attitude, please stay home!

I've always said that if you can't come to work and have fun.........please stay home!! It only takes one or two people to bring down the morale of the entire team. In this day and age, we should all feel blessed to have a job. Yea, promotions, raises, etc., are really nice, but just being employed in a job you love and working with people who are awsome.................well, what more can I say about that? It's also really refreshing to have a brand new supervisor that: A) Doesn't have a big ole chip on their shoulder; B) Doesn't come in with the "I know everything, do it because I said so attitude"; C) Is willing to step in and help their subordinates whether it's taking out trash, giving breaks or whatever. In the words of the one and only Captain: "It's not the supervisor that makes the line staff, it's the line staff that make the supervisor." I've had more supervisors in my life than I will ever remember. I've had some of the best and some of the worst, But the ones I respected the most were the supervisors that will not tell you to do something that they are not willing to do themselves. A good supervisor doesn't take their break or eat their meal before the people. They don't EVER leave work until all of their people are accounted for and ready to head out the door also. There's nothing more discouraging than to be at a post after a really long shift, tired, hungry, and ready for either a cold beer, or a warm bed, waiting for the relief that will be late because they always are, and to look up to see your supervisor walking out the door! I remember many times in the AF being late back to the armory because of a late traffic stop that turned into a good deuce, or a violent domestic. I walk in expecting no one to be there and am greeted by my Shift Sergeant or LT, saying, "Good job troop, let's call it a day." Those are the little things that make our line of work worthwhile, and keep me going back with a smile on my face. I feel truly blessed to work with the AWSOME people I work with, for they are the ones that keep me going back everyday with a smile on my face! One day, with God's grace, I will be a supervisor. I know my day is coming and I will be truly honored to go to "battle" with any one of the officers I work with

Those silly potlocks!

Well, we've got yet another potluck coming up in a couple of weeks. I honestly don't mind them. They're kinda like going to a buffett at work, and anybody that knows me, knows that I've never met a buffett I didn't like!! Anyway, last time we had one I opened my mouth and said I would cook the tri-tip. Of course, the supervisor, having a mind like a steel trap, didn't forget that, so there I was the day before cooking all sorts of tri-tip! This time, it looks like it's going to be Carne Asada. I've already been on The Food Network site looking for a decent recipe. The only difference is the meat will be cooked on my BBQ. I know it sounds like I'm complaining, but I really enjoy these and our favorite PA LOVES to plan them and she does a great job. We love her!!

Good decisions come once in awhile!

Well, we finally learned who is being promoted at work. I think the common attitude amongst everyone is that the person chosen is very much deserving and will do a great job. Others wanted the promotion, but the right person was chosen. This decision by itself will raise the morale a great deal. WOO HOO!!

New to this blogging thing

Okay, so this is my first time as a blogger. One of my best buds at work turned me on to this site, and I thought I would give it a try. I've done the whole MySpace thing and all, but have never blogged. I guess we'll see........................
